Stuart is a qualified English barrister (also TEP qualified) with some 25 years of experience, gained both at the Bar and in private practice. He specialises in international trusts and private wealth structuring and deals with certain tax issues related to these areas. He also has considerable experience of property law, corporate matters, financial regulation and charitable issues. Whilst primarily a non-contentious lawyer, he is well able to handle matters which turn litigious. He is frequently engaged by high net worth individuals and businesses to deal with a variety of complicated international cross-border financial matters – often involving real estate. In recent years he has been engaged as a senior consultant to a number of HNW family offices managing matters as diverse as:- trust and holding company restructurings, asset and divorce protection plans, tax planning, litigation and property acquisition and development (both commercial and residential).
Stuart is a graduate of Kings College London (BEng (Hons)) and the London School of Economics (MSc (Econ)). He qualified as a barrister in London in 1995. His historical professional experience includes working as an independent barrister both on the North-Eastern Circuit and in London at 11 Old Square, Lincoln’s Inn practising commercial and residential property law and trusts and estate law. He subsequently worked in a non-contentious capacity in the Commercial and Trust Departments of Ozannes in Guernsey, at Crill Canavan Solicitors and Advocates in Jersey and at the London office of Walkers. During this period he acted for settlors, trustees and beneficiaries and was involved in establishing and restructuring numerous high value private trusts and dealing with a wide of range of ancillary issues. He was also involved in managing the legal aspects of two very large hedge fund platforms for a major international bank.
Stuart founded the Fiduciary Business Group in 2009. Since then he has been involved in the provision of legal services to high net worth individuals, international tax advisers, trusts services companies and other professionals.
He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and a regular speaker at professional conferences relating to the financial services industry.
